Is Dark Theme in IDEs actually worse for you?

Dark themes do look cool. They allow a more colorful editor and feel easy on the eyes.

However, most of the times you have to keep switching between a browser window, to look at the output or to visit Google or StackOverflow. These sites have a white background.

Now you are constantly switching from your dark editor to bright white. This is even more harsh on your eyes than just having a constant white background throughout.

I recently switched back from the dark theme to white in Intellij. It feels much more comfortable since my eyes don't have to constantly adjust from black to white.
